Smart Growth and Your Community
Spring Creek Coalition (SCC) gathered residents, landowners, businesses, and community leaders together to help facilitate smart growth of our community to benefit us all.
Growth is inevitable, but urban sprawl can result in disastrous consequences. SCC's interest falls primarily on the preservation of the creek, but we have come to realize that expanding cities with migratory people threatens the creek' natural existence. We, as residents and visitors, must band together to preserve Spring Creek for our children and future generations to come.
The 1st of 2 Open Community Forums was held on September 2000 at the Holiday Inn Express of Locust Grove. John Burwell, N.E. Forester of Oklahoma Dept. Agricultural, led the group through a nominal group process to identify the major concerns of the watershed residents and visitors. The responses of the group were documented along with a ranking of what the group felt was most important.
